ABOUT THE PROJECTAmnesty International's Eyes On Pakistan project leverages the power of geospatial technology to map the human rights crisis in Northwestern Pakistan—enabling action by private citizens and policy makers. Eyes on Pakistan is a comprehensive and interactive site that enables viewers to visualize the extent of violence and human rights abuses in the region. The information presented on the site is based on close to 2,500 incidents (reported in publically available sources), including airstrikes, ground attacks, and bomb attacks, occurring between 2005 and 2009. The project was led by Amnesty International's Science for Human Rights Program (SHR), in collaboration with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The Science for Human Rights Program uses technological and scientific progress for human rights advocacy and campaigning, and currently focuses on utilizing geospatial technologies for human rights monitoring and conflict prevention. These new tools allow us to gain access to previously inaccessible conflict zones, provide visual evidence and present information in a new way. For more information please contact science@aiusa.org. The project was funded by a grant from the Oak Foundation. The Oak Foundation commits its resources to address issues of global social and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged.
